Big Brother 9 - Episode 1 Recap

The premiere episode began with a video recap of the houseguests receiving their keys and learning they had made the final cut!

Julie brings the ladies out and tells us they are not allowed to speak until inside the house, so they simply check each other out. She sends into the house the first four ladies randomly selected - Natalie, Jen, Sheila and Allison. As the ladies ran to claim their beds they found the bedroom doors locked, and various quotes upon the wall about "love". Amanda, Sharon and Chelsia entered next. There are only 7 ladies in the house, compared to 9 men (since one of the pairs will be two gay men).

In the mean time, we learned of a couple going into the house that know each other! Sharon and Jacob are exes. They recently broke off a 12 year relationship and they DO NOT know the other is coming into the house. (Twelve years?? She's only 20 something?) The next twist is Jen and Ryan who are currently dating and DO know that each other will be in the house. They hope to remain undiscovered, and play the game as secret partners.

Editors note: Honestly, give them 24 hours, they will never be able to keep this kind of information under wraps!

Next we meet the guys. First in the house are Adam, Parker, Ryan, Alex and Joshuah. Matt, Neil, Jacob and James follow in the second round. The house is now full of houseguests and everyone is talking at once! Sharon is in shock over Jacob's entrance and confides in a couple of the other girls that she knows someone, but "can't talk about it now!".

We eavesdrop on the introductions, "Hi, my name is..., I am from...", as the champagne pours freely. Meanwhile, Julie reminds us the houseguests have no idea how she is going to be turning the game upside down!

recap2.jpg

After the introductions, Julie again addresses the houseguests. "What do we always tell you about Big Brother? Expect the unexpected". She drops the bombshell that they each have a perfect match sitting with them in the Big Brother living room. She goes on to tell them they will be paired with their "soulmate" for the entire game. They will compete side by side, win competitions, nominate houseguests for eviction, be nominated, and potentially evicted, side by side. She begins announcing the pairs. As each pair is named they are to immediately go and claim a bed, as they will be sleeping side by side as well! When we are down to the last four houseguests, they learn there are no more beds remaining and they will need to grab sleeping bags.

Shelia is not happy with her partner Jacob and they get off on the wrong foot right from the start. Time to buck up guys because Julie informs them they need to head outside for the first HOH competition! The couple that wins this competition will nominate AND evict another couple from the house! No POV, no voting.

Editors note: This would not be a good competition to throw as many do in the first HOH!

One member of each pair will be suspended above a bed, and the other will be holding onto their partner for dear life! They will be raised off the ground, and the last couple still "hanging on" will be the winner.

recap3.jpg

Julie sweetens the pot when they are down to four couples, telling them if they can grab the "pillow with the heart" off the bed, hold on to it, and win this competition, they will receive $10,000!

recap4.jpg

Parker and Jen eventually win and become the first "Power Couple". They will only have a couple of hours to determine who they will evict.

As the credits roll, we learn the eviction will happen on the next show. ALL episodes will be available for streaming online here!
